NO THRUSH!

So, I thought Will had Thrush. Well, we went to the doctor today and....

HE DOESN'T!

He just has diaper rash really bad from going poo all the time, which breastfed babies do. So, while we were there, the Doctor took off the rest of his umbilical cord and gave me some diaper rash cream that should help clear up his rash better.

So...I have some questions.

Will was on a great schedule while he was in the NICU, he would eat every three hours. Well, that was while he was on a bottle. I made him quit the bottle, and we are strictly breastfeeding. Well, now I am pretty much feeding him on demand. He still eats every three hours, pretty much....I want to get him on a schedule, and get him to sleep longer at night, but I don't know how. HELP?!?

You should read "Healthy Sleep, Happy Baby"....it's the BEST book ever!! You can borrow mine! Unfortunately I don't think that you can really put a baby on a schedule until they are a few months old. But like I've said, we followed that book and put Cameron on a strict sleep/nap schedule when he was 4 months old and he's been sleeping like an angel ever since. Maybe someone else has some better ideas for a newborn....but I don't think you can really force a newborn into any sort of a pattern during the first few months....

From what I remember you can't really put a baby on a schedule until about 3 months, it works best when you can start feeding them rice cereal, that's when they really get on a set schedule... aside from that it's the joys of having a newborn! Tyson just got on his own schedule, we didn't force it we just made sure at night we kept a set routine before "bed time". As for the diaper rash I'm sure what the dr gave you is wonderful, but in case you're interested we've used this stuff called Boudreaux's Butt Paste, and it works wonderfully and we only get it in the 3 oz and it lasts a long time... Tyson also has super sensitive skin and this stuff worked wonderfully, just in case you're interested!

I would suggest reading "On Becoming Babywise." It has worked great for us and Charlotte is on a schedule and sleeps great. You can't get them on a schedule right at first, but the book talks about important things to do now that will help them fall into a schedule. I really think you'd like it since we have similar opinions on these types of things.

I ditto babywise. We live with a family that uses it and her babies are on schedules at a month old. It is GREAT!

Well well let me tell you my recommendation would be ....infant Tylenol! ha ha sorry I got nothing for you. Oh wait when I nannied I would just start the schedule I wanted him to be on! To help him sleep I would give him a nice bath and then rub on lavender smelling baby lotion, then a bottle then bed. He slept straight through the night I hear that lavender body wash and lotion works for a lot of people!

I disagree with these other comments. I believe babies can be put on a schedule when they come home from the hospital. Ainsley was really jaundice as a newborn and she still was on a set schedule and sleeping through the night before 1 month old. Other people on here have suggested books so I don't if your interested in the one I read but it seriously has so much insight. I would be lost as a mom without reading it! There are time gaps where babies schedules have to change and you just adjust with them. But anyway, if your interested please let me know and I can give you information about my book. :)
